Stretch mark (translucent, scar-like streaks on your skin) becomes evident when it is prompt by childbearing, rapid weight loss or gain. To make room for the expansion, the skin is overstretched and result to reddish, purplish inflammation. Dense collagen and elastic fibres come into the structure to allow recoil after transitory stretching, gradually maturing into white, hard cellulite surface. Though benign in nature, most people can be overtly conscious of their presence around the arms, chest, belly, lower backs, thighs, hips, and bottoms.

During pregnancy to breastfeeding progression, women experience size rollercoaster on their tummy and their breasts. Making room for the baby means having to compromise drastic bodily changes (hello, back aches and constipation!) including continual tugging and stretching on the tummy, thighs, and chests. That’s an honourable thing to put up with, dear you!

You need not sweat it, mama, we’ve all been there. It’s hard to accept it sometimes, but we’re in this together! To counter these dreary marks, try the few listed safe yet effective remedies to improve their appearance on your skin.

Virgin coconut oil is the purest form of natural healer and best for skin hydration. It can be added to your skin care regime and even for daily consumption! (note: seek for alternative choices if you are allergic to coconut). Coconut Oil is extracted to retain its distinct, tropical scent. Using it with other emollients (products that smooth your skin like aloe vera, shea butter, etc.) after bath will re-establish the skins natural microbial and acid barrier faster. Apply regularly to reduce stretch marks faster and bring back smoother appearance.

While it is questionable to completely banish them from sight, you can reduce the chances of getting these marks. Within 6 to 12 months, these marks tend to become less visible if you’ve been taking good care of your skin and health. Take note to:

  • Monitor your weight level. Gain and lose weight slowly and steadily. Avoid “crash diet” or the conventional wisdom of “eating for two” when pregnant.

  • Treat fresh stretch marks when they appear, Massaging the affected areas with the remedies recommended.

  • Keep your skin moisturized. Apply creams containing vitamin A, C and E as they help repair skin tissue and promote strong, elastic skin.

  • Practise exfoliation occasionally to scrub away the old and in with the new batch of skin.

  • Get the adequate amount of Zinc-rich

  • Hydrate whenever possible. Water consumption is, needless to say, essential for everyday life.

If you can’t totally prevent stretch marks on your skin, you can work to minimize their appearance, so they aren’t as noticeable in the long run.
